Signs of Emptiness

Around 1995 I was doing a lot of driving in around New York and New Jersey and I started noticing a strange phenomenon almost everywhere went: signs that stood in clear view of the highway and yet advertising nothing, having been abandoned for one reason or another. I dubbed these frequently appearing visages 'Sign of Emptiness' and I seem to find them everywhere I go.
